Idoni explores the unique visual characteristics of systems and algorithms.
It is an infinite animation in which every moment—every frame—is unique and ephemeral.
Idoni is created from 3 layers.
Layer I
Recursively draws an almost architectural geometric structure. It explores how the order in which the elements are painted determines the visual result.
Layer DO
Tiny particles wander through space indefinitely, tirelessly navigating and exploring every corner. A particle system with its own behavior, typical of the algorithmic world.
Layer NI
Tracing particles in the DO layer and drawing in layer I determine where we take image clippings and copy them into this layer.
The final visual result is distorted and redrawn. Sometimes the animation recalls the initial geometric structure; other times, the collage process of cutting and pasting glitches the entire image.
A unique combination of two algorithmic systems from the previous layers creates a new result—one that visually gathers the characteristics of the algorithmic medium to enhance its properties and inner particularities.

An algorithm, written in code, draws the artwork. Each pixel is a marble, a person.
The pixels begin mixed together at random. They arrive disordered, all entering at once.
Throughout the night, at every moment, they observe who is beside them.
Depending on their neighbours, they decide whether to come together, move away, mix with them, or even change colour.
Each pixel, each marble, looks around itself three times and decides what to do.
Groups, shapes, clusters, crowds, mixtures and patterns emerge… and then dissolve again.
Not even the artist knows what will happen, where each person will go, or where the night will end.
Guided by the instructions of the algorithm, the pixels trace their unpredictable paths.
They know where they begin, but not where they will end up, or with whom.
What path, what destination, will each of them draw?
