BIO
Artist and software developer, influenced by geometry, mathematics, and technology, Gustavo Muñoz art represents visual remnants of obsessive thoughts about reality, with segments forming unexpected and intriguing connections and flows.
Drawing from his engineering background, he takes his work to an obsessive level through mathematical explorations, focusing on themes like the tangibility of technology, biology, identity, and physics.
Using software to visually represent mathematical code, he generates geometric figures that are subjected to functions adding noise and dynamism. This process results in final pieces rendered on paper, canvas, animation, video, and sculptural objects, often complemented by electronic synthesizer-generated audio.
Gustavo aims to explore mathematical beauty and create a connection between science and art. His pieces appear chaotic yet structured, inviting viewers to find their own connections and meanings. He employs white, black, and neon colors, angular lines, geometric patterns, and repetitive abstract forms, evoking a futuristic technological atmosphere.
Gustavo’s work centers on “computer art” also known as “generative code” or “creative code”. His training as an engineer and software developer has allowed him to explore, since 2011, the encounter between modular structures and organic arrangements in topics related to the perception of time, space, nature, and system dynamics.
In his artistic practice he explores the means of drawing on a CNC plotter and the moving image accompanied by synthesized sound.
Parallel to his practice, Gustavo is co-founder of Anagrama, a renowned international branding agency. He’s a strategic leader in projects in multiple industries. Participant in open source projects related to Diabetes health (TEDx Talk) and STEAM education in Mexico.
His work has been selected for:
— Subasta Furia / CRIT Sonora. Art auction in donation to benefit children with disabilities. May 2024.
— Las Flores Emergen. Collaborative exhibition. November 2023 in Mexico City.
— Tracing the Line. Vetro Editions, 2023. Book featuring CNC Plotter art by renown artists from around the world.
— Processing Community Catalog 2001-2021. Book featuring art from artists around the world who use Processing as a tool.
— Processing Community Day: An Inventory of Anachronic Practices. 2021. Coimbra University. Portugal.

VIVOTECA takes the torus as its main character embracing both its endlessly looping geometry and its metaphorical significance. Memories return, knowledge deepens, fears evolve into discoveries, and happiness often reveals in the simplest of moments. This work translates those cycles into a generative language of light, mystery, and color.
The inspiration brings together two worlds: the recurrence of the torus across science: physics, biology, systems theory, and the radiant cultural aesthetics of the 1980s. Neon tones and glows recall the optimism and imagination of that era.
VIVOTECA is conceived as a living system inviting us to pause, observe and reflect as each iteration gradually unfolds into its final form. Every piece becomes a personal encounter with the infinite; a cycle of experience that invites wonder, renewal, and reflection.
