About the project
The concept of a central pulsating force and generative motion is an image rooted in cosmogony and hermeticism. It is also a homocentric idea, abstractly representing cardiac function.
The algorithm that drives this work consists of two essential components. The first part of the code, utilizing the Hydra software by Olivia Jack, generates the color pulse and its successive patterns. These patterns are created through feedback movements, where each new form is built upon the previously generated one. Hydra functions similarly to a modular video synthesizer, emphasizing movement and color, and is characterized by a distinctly digital and contemporary aesthetic. The second part of the code, written in JavaScript using the p5.js library, takes the space/time color data from the Hydra canvas and translates it into a continuous line drawing. This process is computationally intensive, as the second part of the code must read and interpret the solid colors from the Hydra animation frame by frame. This aspect of the work gives it an aesthetic reminiscent of plotter drawings, a technique used by the pioneers of computational art. In "Creative Pulse", there is an effort to bridge the avant-garde with the origins of art created through code.
Technically, Pols Creatiu emerges from the exploration of how to translate images generated with Hydra into plotter drawings, with the aim of bridging two seemingly disparate worlds within art by code: the precision of plotter art and the dynamic, "crisp" animation created with Hydra or GLSL shaders. To facilitate the export to SVG and the drawing by the robotic arm, the project adheres to two key requirements: using a single color and ensuring continuous drawing lines. After experimenting with various pens, inks, and stroke styles, Sakura Ballsign classic colored gel pens and Hahnemühle 300gsm paper were selected. The code was adjusted to include slight deviations in the strokes, giving the final artwork a hand-drawn quality. This approach seeks to contrast the rigid precision of the code with the organic quality of the stroke, drawing on an aesthetic similar to rapid continuous line drawings.
About Mekhno
I'm a medical doctor and a digital artist. I can't choose and I won't do it, as I'm all the parts that make who I am. Curious above all qualities, I have an untamable need to express myself, thoughts, believes and experiences in life, through art
This last years, I'm focused on generative art or art made with code. Using maths as structure and order plus giving some space to randomness, I create in the void through light; or at least this is how I see it.
My style is minimalist and abstract, but I give freedom to my artistic expression to go beyond that if its needed. I love experimenting with ideas and tools in original ways, lately using pen plotters.
